Brief

Generally, modernization is a process by which a nation/region evolves to a higher level of development through social, economic, and political changes. For developing countries, modernization also means catching-up with advanced countries.

Modernization is a national goal of China in the 21st Century. China Center for Modernization Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CCMR, CAS), founded in June 2002, is a non-profit research unit to serve the national goal with a focus on multidisciplinary studies and professional training.  

VISION

òA highly qualified research center for the studies of theories and strategies of China’s modernization;

òAn innovative team in the national scientific think tank of CAS; and

òA high-level education unit for advanced professionals in the area of modernization research.  

MISSION

Our mission is to deepen the understanding of the theories of China’s modernization and to form the “Chinese Team” of modernization studies for the benefit of science, government, business, and society. Our objectives are:

òTo advance the understanding of modernization through pioneering multidisciplinary research;

òTo provide evaluations for the worldwide modernization process;  

òTo advise on the strategies of modernization; and  

òTo deliver postgraduate training which provides the analytical and practical skills needed to the challenges of modernization in the future.
